FAQs

What should I see an osteopath for?

If you have a job that causes you pain or discomfort from repetitive stress on your body or due to long hours in one posture, then osteopathy is perfect, as the osteopathic treatments provided will help relieve your pain. This applies to office workers, tradies, or anyone that uses their body to work. Some of our most frequent complaints are pain in the neck and shoulders associated with staring down at a laptop or back pain caused by long hours sitting on a chair.

Osteopathic treatments are also an excellent solution when medication should be avoided for medical reasons like pregnancies or for personal reasons if you just believe that a natural alternative is better for you. Osteopathy is not only ideal to help seniors age gracefully and manage the chronic body pains coming with age, but also relieve the consequences of stress such as grinding your teeth in your sleep or getting pressure headaches.  Do not let those discomforts define your quality of life.

What should I expect after an Osteopathic treatment?

Many patients describe feeling like they’re floating on air or being able to access more range in their movements after their first osteopathy session. This is because your entire body is relaxed. In the days following your sessions, you might experience heightened pain in your problem area. This is because it takes time for the body to adjust to the shift that manual therapy creates. This period ranges from 24 to 48 hours in which you can experience discomfort in the area, but the pain should fade and begin to disappear entirely, giving you a whole-body healing experience. Don’t hesitate to discuss it with your practitioner.

Can I claim my osteopathic session?

Osteopathy is a government-registered allied health service in Australia, which means that many health funds in the country allow patients to claim their sessions. We encourage you to contact your health insurance to find out what your rebate for each session would be.

Additionally, you have the option of partial cover through Medicare. This is activated by your GP, who needs to give you a referral for an enhanced plan of care (EPC). The EPC must be linked to the Chronic Disease Management Plan. Speak to your doctor to find out more.

What should I wear to my osteopathic treatment session?

Just wear comfortable and loose clothing. We will manipulate your entire body, and you need to feel comfortable and not exposed in any way that makes you unable to relax entirely. Remember, this session is to treat your pain with manual therapy, so it’s all about your comfort.

Should I see an Osteo or a Physio?

Physiotherapy and Osteopathy are complementary because they approach the body from a very different angle. The physio in the majority relies on exercise-based therapy with the focus on rehabbing the part of the body associated with the complaint. While Osteopathy is much more manual and global in its approach working on the whole body to promote improvement in the area associated with the complaint. So it will be unusual that some patients will benefit from both conjointly.
